There's still a chance to see Artists' Gardens

There's still a chance to see Artists' Gardens, an inspiring installation of urban gardens created just for this year as part of Derry Londonderry's year as City of Culture.

Irish-born Katie Holten, Derry resident Locky Morris and internationally-renowned artists Ackroyd & Harvey have taken over neglected spaces in the city and transform them into thought-provoking small outside spaces.

Katie Holten's garden, in the courtyard of a factory in North Edward Street, turns the office lunch break into a reflective space for community gardening, thinking, and eating sandwiches (perhaps there's a spot where you work which could be turned into a similar retreat?) Locky Morris, meanwhile, focuses on a dead tree in Brooke Park, Derry, for 'Dead On': the transformation of what many of us would view as dead wood into an artwork of sound and beauty. It'll make you look at that old dead stump in the back garden in a whole new way.

Finally Ackroyd & Harvey have planted the walls on the Cunningham building at Ebrington with grass: the ultimate green building, and a few ideas for how to use blank walls in your own space at home.

Artists' Gardens runs until 20 December: for more details visit www.cityofculture2013.com.
