Celebrate the garden after dark

Celebrate the garden after dark

Celebrate the garden after dark now that the nights are drawing in – it's a time when we don't usually go outside but the garden at night takes on a special character all its own.

You'll find plenty of inspiration at Mount Stewart, in Co. Down, this year holding its first-ever Festival of Light over three magical weekends this month. A spectacular illuminated trail is lighting this iconic garden brilliantly from one end to the other, individually highlighting over 200 feature trees against the night sky.

In your own garden, too, there are plenty of chances to show off how beautiful your plants can be after dark. Make the most of the great selection of different garden lighting effects in our garden centre to light garden paths, individual plants or just put up a pretty string of fairy lights for a magical evening outdoors.

Plant cleverly and your garden plants can glow at dusk, too. Whites and pale blues shine in twilight: try the white foxglove, Digitalis purpurea var alba, or pure white regal lilies. Include evening-scented Nicotiana sylvestris or the honeysuckle Lonicera periclymenum 'Graham Thomas', and you'll attract in moths and even bats – making your garden come alive in more ways than one.
